Six-foot redwood board-on-board privacy fence stepping down a sloped backyard, with dry hills in the distance

Cask Fence: fence company in Temecula, CA

Hillside lots, HOA rules and a cemented hardpan a couple of feet down decide how a fence goes in around Temecula. Cask Fence Temecula plans residential and perimeter fences, gates, and block and retaining walls around all three before the first post hole, and licensed and insured contractors build them.

What usually starts the call

Most fence projects here begin with one of four situations, and each one changes what gets checked first.

Whichever one brought you here, the site visit starts with the ground and the paperwork.

A section leaning after the wind

Santa Ana winds push hardest on solid privacy fences. Whether it's one rotted post or the whole line comes down to how the posts were set and what they sit in.

The HOA approved a new style

California law requires the architectural committee's decision in writing. The approved height, color and material become the plan, and nothing gets ordered before that letter exists.

A pool is about to be dug

Temecula wants a temporary fence and gate up when pool construction starts, and a permanent enclosure at least 5 ft tall before the final inspection.

Wood touching the house

Draft state rules for the highest fire zones would bar new combustible fencing within 5 ft of a home. A metal section where the fence meets the wall is the usual answer.

One thing none of these settles is where the property line runs. An old fence is not proof of the boundary: it may have been set a foot inside or outside it decades ago. Where a new fence goes on or near the line, the corner pins or a survey decide it, and the property line guide explains when one is worth ordering.

Everything we build

Fences, gates and the walls they sit on, handled as one boundary instead of three separate trades.

Not sure where your project fits? Start with the material, then add gates and walls.

Most of the work is backyard privacy fencing on single-family lots, along with the side-yard gates and front-yard fences that go with it. Larger lots and rural parcels add perimeter fencing, ranch rail and wide drive gates. The material choice comes first, but the slope, the soil and the HOA usually decide the details.

Why plan it this way

The ground gets checked first

Much of the valley is sandy loam over a cemented hardpan, mapped at about two to three feet down at many points. Knowing that before the estimate decides whether the holes need an auger, a rock bit or a core drill.

Rules are read for your address

Temecula, Murrieta, Menifee, the county and each HOA set their own height and setback limits. They're confirmed for your lot before the plan is drawn, so the fence isn't built to someone else's rules.

Prices you can see before calling

The estimator shows national budgeting ranges by material and adds Temecula's fence permit fee where one applies, so a quote arrives against a number you already understand.

The right license for each part

California licenses fences, masonry walls and concrete as separate trades. Each part of a project goes to a licensed and insured contractor who holds the class for that work.

From the first call to the last latch

Each stage depends on the one before it. Skipping the paperwork is how a new fence ends up a foot over the line or two feet over the HOA's height.

  1. The call

Length, material, height, slope, how many gates, and anything the HOA has already said.

photos of the line and any survey help

  2. The site visit

Walk the line, look for corner pins or a survey, and check grade, rock, drainage and access for equipment.

  3. Paperwork

HOA submittal, written notice to a neighbor where a fence is shared, any permit, and a DigAlert ticket at least two working days before digging.

  4. The build

Posts set and the concrete cured, then rails and boards or panels, then gates hung and adjusted on their own heavier posts.

  5. The walk

Check plumb and line, gate swing and latch, and the gap at the bottom, then clear debris and leftover concrete.

Planning a fence this season?

Send the length, the material and a few photos of the line. The estimate starts from there, with gates and any permit listed separately.

What a fence costs in Temecula

National budgeting ranges per linear foot, installed, plus the city's own permit fee. They are not quotes: your lot decides where in the range a job lands.

Wood privacy fence, 6 ft$10–$50 per linear ftA national budgeting range for pressure-treated pine or fir. Redwood and cedar run to the top of it and beyond.
Vinyl privacy fence$15–$85 per linear ftA national budgeting range, and a wide one: a full 6 ft privacy style sits in the upper half.
Wrought iron or tubular steel$25–$85 per linear ftA national budgeting range for powder-coated steel. Gauge, picket spacing and pilasters move it most.
Temecula fence permit, 6 to 10 ft$384 first 100 ftCity of Temecula fee schedule for a non-masonry fence, plus $91 for each additional 100 linear feet.

Fence erectors in the Riverside metro area earn a mean $26.95 an hour, about 11% above the $24.29 national mean, in the latest U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates. A wage is not a billing rate, but it shows why local labor runs higher.

What moves the price

  • Rock and hardpan: a rock bit or core drill adds time to every hole
  • Slope: stepped panels need more posts and more cutting than a level run
  • Gates: each one needs heavier posts, hinges and a latch
  • Tear-out: old posts set in concrete come out one at a time
  • HOA specifications: a required style, color or cap can change the material
  • Height and wind exposure: a taller solid fence needs stronger posts and may need a permit

The vinyl and iron ranges are wide because material grade and style vary so much, not because the numbers are padded. A 4 ft picket and a 6 ft privacy fence are both vinyl, and they sit at opposite ends of the band. The permit fee comes from the City of Temecula fee schedule and applies inside city limits only. The Temecula fence cost guide breaks a total into its parts.

Repair, replace sections or replace the run

The real choice on an aging fence, and what decides it. None of these is right for every fence.

Repair in place

Resetting or replacing one or two failed posts, a broken panel, or a gate and its hinge post. New wood next to weathered boards won't match for a season or two.

fits when the rest of the line is plumb and the posts are sound at the base

Replace sections

Rebuilding a wind-blown stretch or a termite-hit area while the rest stays. A discontinued vinyl profile may not have a match.

fits damage that stops at a clear point, checked by probing the posts on either side

Replace the run

Tearing out the whole fence, including old concrete footings, and building new. The line location, HOA rules and neighbor notice all come back into play.

fits rot or termites at most posts, or a line that leans along its length

A lean doesn't prove a single cause. It can be one rotted post, footings too shallow for the soil, or a sprinkler soaking the same spot for years, and each leads to a different fix. The fence repair assessment sorts the signs, and the repair or replace guide goes through the trade-offs.

Questions Temecula homeowners ask

Short answers first. The guides and service pages go into each one in depth.

What does Cask Fence Temecula do?

We plan and manage fence, gate and wall projects in Temecula and the nearby valley cities: wood, vinyl, wrought iron and chain link fences, manual and automatic gates, block and retaining walls, repairs, replacements and temporary fencing. Licensed and insured contractors carry out the work. Our office is at 31205 Pauba Rd, and the phone is (951) 944-2778.

Who actually builds the fence?

Licensed and insured contractors, matched to the work. California's CSLB licenses fencing under the C-13 class, which excludes masonry, so a block wall goes to a C-29 masonry contractor and flatwork to a C-8 concrete contractor. On a project that mixes a fence and a wall, each part goes to a contractor licensed for it, and you can look up any license number on the CSLB site.

Which areas do you cover besides Temecula?

Murrieta, Menifee, Wildomar, Lake Elsinore, Canyon Lake, French Valley, Temecula Wine Country and Fallbrook. Each one has its own permit office or design rules: Murrieta and Menifee run their own city codes, French Valley and the wine country fall under Riverside County, and Fallbrook is in San Diego County. If your address is just outside these, call and ask.

What paperwork can a fence project here need before work starts?

Up to four things. HOA approval in writing if your association requires it. Written notice to a neighbor at least 30 days ahead if you expect them to share the cost of a boundary fence. A permit for taller fences, masonry walls and pools. And a DigAlert ticket at least two working days before any hole is dug. Not every job needs all four.

Why do you show national price ranges instead of a Temecula price?

Because the price data we can check and stand behind is national, and a local figure we couldn't back up would mislead you more than help. The national ranges give you a budget, the City of Temecula fee schedule adds the permit cost, and your lot's slope, rock, gates and tear-out set the real figure on the estimate.

Can one project cover a fence, a gate and a block wall?

Yes, and it's often better planned that way, because they share a line, a grade and sometimes footings. Under Temecula's block wall standard only open fencing such as wrought iron may attach to the pilasters, and a wall with more than 6 in. of grade difference across it becomes a retaining wall. Those rules shape the fence before it's drawn.

What should I send to get an estimate?

The rough length and the material you're leaning toward, the height, how many gates and how wide, and a few photos of the line from each end. Add any HOA requirements or approval letter, a survey or corner pin locations if you have them, and whether an old fence has to come out. Rough numbers are fine to start.

When can I reach you?

The office answers Monday to Friday from 8am to 6pm, and Saturday and Sunday from 9am to 2pm. Outside those hours the line takes emergency calls only. That is not a promise of emergency repair service: calls about anything else are returned the next time the office is open, and a message with photos of the fence line gets the estimate moving.
